West Haven 2nd Alarm 183 Center Street
11/1/10 West Haven, CT - West Haven firefighters fought an early afternoon fire located at 183 Center Street on November 1, 2010. First in companies found a two and a half story, wood frame with heavy fire venting from the number two side, first floor. Members had a report of a handicapped person on the first floor. Engine twenty one stretched the initial attack line the through the front door and attempted to find the seat of the fire. The company had to regroup after they could not make the room due to a walled off front entry way. As a result a second alarm was transmitted by orders of Deputy Chief Shwartz. The fire was then darkened down from the outside due to the auto extension to the roof line. Companies stretched additional lines to the second floor and attic as the truck companies opened up. All searches proved negative. One firefighter suffered a lacerated finger and there were no civilian injuries. The cause of the fire was being investigated by the West Haven Fire Marshal's office.
