North Haven Police stand off / house explosion

05/02/18 North Haven, CT - The incident began around seven p.m. tonight when the area SWAT team attempted to arrest the subject who lived at 385 Quinnipiac Ave. When the police officers went to enter the home exploded. The incident began three days ago when the man beat and held his wife captive. She escaped today and showed up at North Haven PD HQ. prompting the response to the house. The man is an EDP known to have guns in the house. He barricaded himself in the home. It is thought that he booby trapped the house to injure first responders. Eight police officers were injured and taken to area hospitals with non life threatening injuries. The man has not been found. It is believed that he remained in the home and died. Firefighters were not allowed to enter the home and had to let the house burn. A barn and RV on the property also burned as a result.
