New Haven fatal 3rd Alarm Highrise Fire

06/11/14 New haven, CT - Fire ripped through an apartment of a 17 story Highrise early Thursday morning. The fire was reported shortly after 4:30 am as flames from the balcony. First due units found heavy fire showing from the sixth floor apartment. A second alarm was transmitted due to the size of the building followed shortly by a third alarm. Firefighters reached the fire floor and found the fire apartment heavily involved. Members performing a primary search found a male occupant and removed him from the apartment to the lobby where resuscitation attempts began. The man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Four additional residents were also taken to area hospitals and treated for smoke related issues. Two firefighters were also injured battling the three alarm fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
