New Haven 2nd alarm 266 Blatchley Ave

05/07/17 New Haven, CT - Heavy fire was showing on arrival of Engine Co. 10 from a two and a half story, wood frame dwelling. The fire quickly extended to the number two side exposure, a similar occupied dwelling. A second alarm was transmitted as companies prepared for a long firefight. Multiple hand lines were stretched into both fire buildings as firefighters tried to stop the spread of the fire. Firefighters were removed from the original fire building due to the heavy volume of fire on the 3rd floor. The interior operation was continued in the exposure with a successful knockdown of the fire. The fire continued to grow in intensity as companies set up for master stream operations. The fire took over an hour to bring under control. Searches in both buildings proved negative. The original dwelling was vacant, raising the cause of the fire to suspicious. One firefighter was injured with non life threatening injuries. Multiple people in the exposure house required sheltering.
