New Haven 2nd alarm 1460 Whalley Ave
10/23/14 New Haven, CT - Engine 15 and Truck 4 were stilled out to check for smoke in the area. Upon the arrival of Engine 15 , there was smoke issuing from several stores of a one story, taxpayer with a two story addition. The box was transmitted and companies went to work,. There was a delay in attacking the fire due to forcible entry of the stores. Once entry was gained members found heavy fire in the rear of a the VIP Cleaners with extension to the cockloft. A second alarm was transmitted by orders of Batt. Chief Gould. Multiple lines were stretched, trucks and squads opened up and searched. Companies were briefly pulled from the building because of a comprised air handling unit on the roof. The fire took about an hour to bring under control. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
