02/16/12 Bridgeport,CT - An occupied multiple dwelling in the city's north end was the scene of a second alarm fire early on the 16th. First due Engine 12 only a block away found heavy fire on the number two side. Firefighters were confronted with numerous people trapped on balconies and hanging out of windows. To make matters worse Engine 12's hydrant was dead leaving them with only tank water until the arrival of the second due engine. The fire also extended to a law office on the number 2 side prompting command to transmit the second alarm.
During the primary search one victim was found and removed from a first floor apartment. He is listed in critical condition. Thirty five people were left homeless after the blaze. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the FMO.
