Bridgeport 5th alarm 2101 Seaview Avenue
(Cell phone pics) 09/11/14 Bridgeport, CT - East side companies received a box alarm for reported black smoke coming from a factory at this location. Battalion 2 arrived to find a two block long factory with light smoke showing from a few windows. The fire quickly erupted throughout the building as companies were setting up quickly overwhelming the assignment. A second alarm was transmitted followed quickly by a third. A general alarm for the city was struck plus an additional alarm bringing an engine and truck respectively from Stratford and Fairfield to the scene to operate. Companies operating on Seaview Avenue were almost forced to abandon their positions as heavy fire caused by massive explosions singed nearby houses and apparatus. Members protected the street valiantly by placing water curtains on the apparatus and houses. Explosions continued to throw fireballs well over one hundred feet into the air. Several times companies had to reposition apparatus due to radiant heat. The fire spread to two additional warehouses causing reducing them to rubble as well. The initial warehouse had an undetermined number of drums containing drums of oils , perfumes and dyes. The run off from the fire caused a yet to be determined amount of environmental damage. The conflagration took four hours to darken down and almost eight to bring under control.
